Tested routes

Two leads, one date: what the full Quick routes actually show

Two complete, repeatable battles with the 20 October team. The stronger-looking opening and the final result tell different stories.

What we compared

This test uses RED Quick in this edition, not the FireRed Classic game or the server-run League. Both runs use the actual 20 October 2026 daily team: Gengar, Vaporeon, Gyarados, Nidoking, Raichu and Alakazam. Only the lead is moved to the front; the other five retain their order. RED always starts with Pikachu.

We chose Gengar and Vaporeon because they expose two different opening questions. Gengar has higher configured Speed than Pikachu and several special attacks. Vaporeon has a Surf estimate above Pikachu’s full HP, but lower Speed and an Electric weakness. Inspecting a damage range alone hides that trade-off.

Gengar · Lv. 100

Vaporeon · Lv. 100

A deliberately simple policy, kept constant

For both complete runs, choose the first enabled move with remaining PP in the displayed move order. When a replacement is required, choose the first living Pokémon on the bench in current party order. Make no voluntary switches. RED uses the existing published AI, selected before the player command.

This policy is intentionally crude, so it is easy to reproduce. It is not advice to press the first move every turn. We ran each route twice with the same date, lead and commands. The action lists and battle events matched after removing wall-clock timestamps; all four runs finished.

The opening does not decide the whole battle

With Gengar first, Thunderbolt leaves Pikachu at 91/212 HP. Pikachu’s reply leaves Gengar at 15/262, inflicts paralysis, and Leftovers raises it to 31/262 at the end of the turn. Gengar faints on turn 2. With Vaporeon first, Pikachu acts before Surf and knocks it out on turn 1; Gengar then enters at full HP.

The complete routes diverge after that. Both remove Pikachu on turn 3, but the Gengar-first route loses Vaporeon to a critical hit on turn 4 and finishes in defeat on turn 14. The Vaporeon-first route wins on turn 14 with Alakazam at 252/252 HP. This describes the recorded events, not a proof that sacrificing Vaporeon caused the win.

What you can use — and what this test cannot prove

Keep more than the first target in mind. In these runs, later matchups against Espeon, Snorlax and Charizard consume different amounts of the surviving team. The event table and complete routes below let you inspect those differences rather than judge an opener by a single damage number.

Two paths do not establish a best lead or a win rate. Different choices consume the random stream differently; the same starting seed does not pair every critical hit and accuracy roll across routes. The historical date here is a maintainer test fixture, reproduced from the saved command lists. RED Quick currently offers random practice and a replay of the completed day’s team, not an arbitrary-date picker. Use those controls to compare your own choices without changing the formal result. Classic uses random learnable moves and a different engine; do not apply this route to it.
